The figures provided by the interactive CarbonChain CBAM Certificate Estimator (BETA) are estimated potential certificate costs. These are based on tonnage traded, default value intensities provided by the EU, and a forecasted EUA price. Some key assumptions feeding this calculator include:

Direct embedded emissions intensities are based on the EU's default values, unless specified by the user.

The cost of a CBAM Certificate from 2026 will be tied to the weekly average EUA market price. Currently, EUAs are priced around 70 EUR per tonne of CO2 with a linear forecast of EUR 250 in 2034 applied to the estimation.

The CBAM Benchmark has been estimated based on the available ETS benchmarks which can also be defined by the user to assess variations on where the CBAM Benchmark is set by the European Commission.
