Summer 2024 Product Release

Free CBAM tool and new supplier data solutions to accelerate carbon reporting for manufacturers

CarbonChain is excited to release three major updates to help metals and energy leaders stay on top of demands for carbon emissions disclosure across Scopes 1-3.

With new enhancements to our CarbonChain Comply product and supply chain emissions database, we’re enabling even faster, even more accurate carbon accounting and CBAM reporting:

  • CBAM: Europe’s Free and Fully Self-Service Tool — Easily measure, track and submit data for the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (EU CBAM), with automated tools (free access for a limited time).
  • Streamlined and Secure Supplier Engagement — Automate your CBAM supplier engagement and enhance your product carbon footprinting with suppliers' Environmental Product Declarations and Lifecycle Assessments.
  • High-fidelity Carbon Footprints — Track, report and set targets for your supply chain emissions with a new level of accuracy and transparency for key metals.
As regulatory pressures tighten, sustainability leaders need tailored tools for their complex supply chains.

Our Summer release aims to provide the clearest picture yet of supply chain emissions, combining robust independent data with direct inputs from suppliers for unmatched precision and reliability in carbon reporting.

End-to-end CBAM tool: Free and fully self-service

One-stop EU CBAM reporting tool, free for a limited time

To date, CarbonChain’s software has enabled numerous CBAM declarants to comply on time with the European Commission’s quarterly reporting deadlines – potentially avoiding a combined EUR 100 million in penalties.

With this Summer’s release, CarbonChain introduces a fully self-service end-to-end CBAM declaration experience – with free access for eligible companies until October 2024:

  • Auto-validation of CBAM declarations – Upload your CBAM declaration data directly to CarbonChain and get an automated completeness check.
  • Engage suppliers for primary data – Send requests and track submissions of installation data from suppliers (also completeness checks). Suppliers can in turn use the tool for their own suppliers, which is essential for complex CBAM goods.
  • CBAM Knowledge Hub – Access a library of extensive instructional videos and guidance, monitoring methodology templates and more to support suppliers’ data collection process.
  • Track your readiness for primary data rulesGet real-time visibility into the mix of primary data versus default data in supplier submissions, to inform your supplier engagement strategy and obtain the maximum level of primary data.
  • Submit your declaration with confidence - Auto-generate a complete XML file ready for submission. Download it within a .ZIP file along with the collected installation data sheets.

Streamlined and secure supplier engagement

Preview: Easily request and track supplier data for CBAM on CarbonChain’s platform

Suppliers hold their carbon data in many forms, depending on the frameworks they already use or comply with. Today, companies want to be able to use supplier data to prepare their CBAM declarations and/or improve the fidelity of their carbon footprint calculations.

CarbonChain supports your supplier engagement strategy, regardless of the format of the data: Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) data is all accepted by our platform.

  • Obtain CBAM primary data — Engage directly with suppliers for installation carbon data, a requirement for the upcoming October CBAM submission.
  • Sync suppliers’ EPDs, LCAs and PCFs — CarbonChain has extended its emissions database to accommodate primary supplier data from key reporting formats, to improve Product Carbon Footprint calculations.

Moreover, CarbonChain users want assurance that any sensitive supplier data will be protected from other users on the platform.

  • Keep emission factors private — If needed, CarbonChain has the ability to restrict emission factors so that they are only used by the customer that provided them.

High-fidelity carbon footprints

Accurate supply chain emissions, with step-by-step breakdowns

CarbonChain is building the most accurate carbon accounting platform for metal and energy supply chains.

We use a robust independent emissions database to close your data gaps, especially where direct supplier data is unavailable, and we continuously improve the accuracy of these emission factors. Our team works to make every step of the supply chain visible, asset by asset – so you can pinpoint carbon hotspots, set precise targets, and inform your procurement strategy

Following Greenhouse Gas Protocol best practice, CarbonChain’s expert in-house carbon accountants and data analysts have refined the asset-level emissions data for steel, aluminum, nickel and copper.

Now you can track, report and set targets for key metal emissions with a new level of accuracy and transparency:

  • See your supply chain breakdown – Where certain emission factors previously covered several steps of a supply chain, you now have a granular breakdown of accurate carbon calculations for each step.
  • Energy production included – Your carbon accounting is now even more complete, with the inclusion of upstream energy production.

Even more upgrades...

Generate Product Carbon Footprint reports in seconds

We’re continually improving the CarbonChain platform: your central hub for carbon data and emissions reporting. We’ve made updates to user experience that make it even simpler to navigate and generate your Product Carbon Footprint reports within seconds.

Look out for more exciting updates in 2024 that unlock your carbon chain — your accurate picture of emissions across your entire value chain. New upgrades will make it even easier to fulfill every reporting requirement, from CBAM to EU CSRD to US SEC and beyond, and to differentiate in the net-zero transition.

One platform. Every supply chain.

New CDP and BCG analysis shows supply chain emissions (Scope 3) are 26 times as high as operational emissions (Scopes 1 and 2) – and the materials and manufacturing sector, together with retail, caused more than the EU’s total emissions in 2022.

That’s why regulators won’t stop zoning in. That’s why your customers will be seeking lower-carbon products. That’s why investors want to see net-zero targets backed up with clear, data-driven plans.

CarbonChain is your control center as you navigate this changing landscape – not only for compliance but to gain a competitive edge.

Get your carbon reporting and supplier engagement under control.
